Cinque Terre, Florence & Venice
Posted by temashana on April 17, 2009
Hi! I just booked a flight to Italy from 2 -18 October. My friend and I will be going to Cinque Terre, Florence and Venice. We've both been to Italy before but not these areas. I would love to hear from anyone about what their recommended number of days in each place are and which town in the CT to stay in. I've heard good things about all of them and just can't decide. Also if you have any particular places to stay in Florence or Venice, a quiet place would be preferable. We don't want to spend too much but on the other end do not want to do hostels or the like as we're in our late 30's/40's, so somewhere in the middle.
Thank you for any input in advance!

Hi,
I do not know what means of travel you will have. You require a rental for this one, just outside of Florence.
We came across the Villa Gioto Hotel in the small village of Bivigliano, just north of Florence,
by accident on a previous trip and have been back - to us it has been ony a pleasure to stay at, in beautiful countryside. Try www.villagiotto.it
Hope to see you on the cinque terre. My plans are to be there by Oct 14.

check out www.EscapeRental.com, it is a global website with listings by owners to rent short term vacation rentals. Im sure you could find something in your price range be it an apartment or a villa. good luck!!

We drove to Riomaggiore in Nov of 08. Walked down the hill into the town. Found a little hole in the wall on the left side of the street called "Edi". The fellow rented us two apartments in two different buildings and they were not expensive but they looked down on the little harbor. He also found us a garage for our car at the top of the hill (can only bring the car down to drop off your luggage). We met two ladies at dinner who were really dissatisfied with their hotel, price, view and food and they checked out "Edi" and told us later what a great apartment they got.
We bought a ticket on the train but walked the beautiful coast walk from Riomaggiore to Corniglia and then took the train to Vernazza and Monterosso and then back to Riomaggiore. The train station has some beautiful artwork on the outside walls. .

Hmmm, got a little long winded on my last topic. In Venice we stayed at the Hotel Villa Rosa. Older hotel with beautiful rooms. The view was not great but how much time do you spend in your room. It was not expensive but was near good restaurants, shopping and the Grand Canal. There were many young people there but we never did hear them except when we saw them in the lobby.......and then they were fun to talk to. One even gave us big jug of red wine he couldn't carry back on the plane.
