This was my first trip to Fairbanks when the weather was above freezing and there was more than eight hours of daylight! After two winter trips, it was time to venture to Alaska's interior to see what else is happening in Fairbanks.

Day 2 of our whirlwind adventure around Fairbanks, Alaska had Larissa and I trying to see Santa Claus, visiting Downtown Fairbanks and enjoying a nice riverboat cruise along the Chena River before returning to Anchorage that evening.

The locals call Fairbanks, Alaska's second biggest city the "Armpit of Alaska" being it's good for being the jumping off point to Denali and the Arctic. My next two journals will be all about our weekend in Fairbanks.

Fairbanks is Alaska's second largest city and the gateway to the state's interior and Denali National Park. While my visit to Fairbanks was very short (less than 24 hours), I found it to be a very interesting small city.
