Clarification regarding Best Of Photos
Posted by Praskipark on July 19, 2013
Can you please clarify if we now only receive Best Of points for photographs that accompany reviews only. This is not made clear on any information on the IGUGO site and I think it should be clear or otherwise excellent photographers will carry on posting hundreds of brilliant photos without reviews and not be rewarded any points.

This doesn't only affect those who post photos but not reviews.
I tend to upload a bunch of photos and then add them to the reviews later on, as and when I write them. Does this mean that those photos all lose any chance to get a Best of? If so, I'm tempted to remove them and repost when they have the relevant reviews to go with.

And could we please ask again that you consider increasing the amount of communication on these and other changes? You have a forum, you have all our contact details, it's not like we're hiding from Igougo. People do want to know these things.

Actually, I also do the same as Koshka upload the pics first and then write later and sometimes the reviews come a lot later. It would be a good idea if we had guidelines for everything; stories, reviews, journals and photos and then we know were we stand. :-)

I also upload photos first. I don't always get a chance to write reviews until much later. I'm going to be doing this in the not too distant future for over 5 journals.
I remember when the forums/boards used to be a busy place full of discussion. Such a shame because the boards could be used to draw more people in to the site to research travel.

Like the three members who've already posted to this topic, I also upload my photos first and then write my reviews later, when I have time. I have noticed lately that it is only when I one of my reviews is awarded 'Best of' status that an accompanying photo also receives a 'Best of' award. Stand-alone photos seem to be overlooked, which wasn't the case until recently.
We definitely need clarification over this issue.

I agree about the forums formerly being used for more interactive exchanges of info here. It would seem that there is more interest and commitment of resources in pushing people (and content) to their other social media outlets, most notably, Facebook where they have nearly 14k "likes."
Personally, it is frustrating to try to get resolution in a more "private manner" such as this forum only to have days/weeks pass by before a response or resolution is provided. Maybe you would hear back quicker if you did post your question on their FB wall?
I don't think this forum is closely monitored as evidenced by the spam that turns up here and seems to linger for days . . . or the lack of responses to questions such as this one.
As much as I have enjoyed having my journals, reviews/stories and photos shared on the Facebook page, I still feel IgoUgo is missing an opportunity in not more fully utilizing the IgoUgo site (forums and blogs). I still do not care for the fact that IgoUgo is using outside bloggers for their "Travel Blogs" page content. Some of the blogs they've featured have been poor.
I realize it is easier for the IgoUgo team to just "outsource" the blogging to someone else, rather than pulling together content from several IgoUgo sources to write a compelling travel article, but frankly, I prefer to read content from our own contributors first . . . and not some travel writer who may or may not receive compensation for the stuff their write. But that's just me . . . and I'm a bit off topic now . . . my apologies.

It is 8 days since the topic was posted. Seems a shame that nobody can be bothered to answer. It seems that FB and Twitter have taken over the forums. From my experience in Publishing, viral marketing isn't as successful as people think it is - people get bored with reading the same old thing all the time and switch off when another new book, review, photograph is shared.
As for personal messages to the editors on IGUGO, answers to questions are spasmodic. It would be nice to have a bit of continuity and for the forum to go back to how it used to be where folks can air their views and get a response.

Hello all:
As the forums tend to be pretty quiet most of the time, I do apologize for just now seeing this thread!
Debmercury had aleady emailed me regarding this but didn't tell me there was a forum thread?!
By NO means are we getting rid of "Best Of" for photos! I'm not sure why anyone thought that, but it's absolutely untrue. We value photos as much as we do reviews.
If you are like Debmercury in that you prefer to only upload (mass) photos, then please let me know and I'll make it a point to go review/check your photos.
Apologies for the delays everyone- after taking 2 vacations myself I'm going to be playing catchup for a gooood long while. *deep breath*
Keep them coming!

To add to that-
Please fee free to use either Facebook or Twitter to either ask us questions or alert us to something as well, as it's much easier to see these messages/we get notifications that may otherwise get "lost in the shuffle".
