Description: While visiting Pioneer Park in Fairbanks, you owe it to yourself to make an evening of it with the Alaska Salmon Bake followed by "The Golden Heart Revue" playing nightly at the Palace Theatre. We were lucky that we were able to work out our whirlwind two week vacation to end up back in Fairbanks on their closing night of the season. With an 8:15p show time, you will have plenty of time to take in dinner and then wander over into Gold Rush Town of Pioneer Park. (I believe earlier in the summer, they also have an early evening show so you could do the show first and then go to dinner at the Salmon Bake.)
As folks began arriving in the theatre, we were treated to our piano playing host Kit who played familiar tunes from the early 20th century including the sing-along "Take Me Out to the Ballgame". What a fun way to get the crowd into the mood for the comedy to come.
The show was a short 45 minutes story telling production, providing some of the documented and sometimes not so well known and perhaps fictionalized accounts of how it came that a city was built in the middle of nowhere and life in early Fairbanks. The acting ensemble featured four multi-talented actors who sang and danced throughout the show with several costume changes. As much a historical satire as anything, the show was very entertaining. The song 'n dance show told in vaudevillian style the history of Fairbanks. It was fun and very entertaining. Some of the comedy was slapstick, which added to the experience. Especially hysterical was a take-off on the classic Abbott & Costello "Who's on First" skit, revolving around a sled dog team.
The theatre appeared to hold around 150 people, seated in old style wooden chairs. It was a very cozy venue. Especially nice was the fact that they encouraged guests to take photos during the show. Tickets for the show are $18 for adults and $9 for children.
