Indiana has the the third largest Amish population in the United States, behind Pennsylvania and Ohio. I spent three days exploring the Amish communities located in NW Indiana learning more about a culture that fascinates me and observing them as they go about living the simple life.

Admittedly, I visited before the full swing of tourist season but it was a nice time to have some time to check out this well known Amish community. Many come to Shipshewana for the flea market or horse auction. For me, I just wanted to check out what was there.

With working taking me into Michigan, I thought a side detour to Amish Acres Historic Farm and Heritage Resort in NW Indiana afterwards would be a fun way to spend a couple of days learning more about the Amish culture.

Brown County started as a failed pioneer agricultural community. Converted to a State Park and allowing nature to take its course around Nashville, it soon flourished as an artist colony.

In Santa Claus, Indiana, Christmas is a year long celebration. You can visit the first attraction in town, Santa's Candy Castle or get your thrills on at Holiday World. Make sure to visit the museum and mail a letter at the only post office with the Santa Claus name.
