Description: While I was only here for two work days and one night, I have to say I was very impressed with the Marriott Hotel at Eagle Crest . . . and the Eagle Crest Conference Center Resort & Golf Club.
The hotel met all of the high-end standards you would expect from a Marriott Hotel. Impeccable service from all staff to the amenities that make travel and being away from home just a little more comfortable, my time at this hotel was comfortable and relaxing.
The hotel is adjacent to the Eagle Crest Golf Course, providing a nice backdrop for meetings or conferences. It is also very close to the University of Michigan campus in Ann Arbor, making it a perfect stay location if you do not want to stay right in the center of college life. Of course, I was there the week of their NCAA Men's Championships loss to Louisville, so I'm guessing the tenor of campus was less than filled with jubilation.
The hotel had all of the full-service features that you would expect including restaurant, bar, indoor swimming pool and fitness center. Free in-room WiFi was an especially appreciated service for my stay. Sleep was very comfy on the plush pillow-top king sized mattress with down duvet. Our group rate for a Friday night stay was $119.
The hotel has meeting and banquet facilities, including the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Ballroom. A total of 30 breakout meeting rooms are available in the hotel itself. Adjacent to the hotel are two other facilities: Eastern Michigan University's Eagle Crest Conference Center and the Eagle Crest Golf Club. The three facilities make up what is known as the "Eagle Crest Resort". The meetings I was participating in, were held at the golf club.
The lower level of the golf course's club house is what you would expect to see at any such club . . . a pro shop, locker room with showers and a dining facility. Upstairs is their meeting & conference space with is a perfect location for small groups not needing to accommodate hundreds of people or multiple breakout sessions. For our group of around 30, it was perfect . . . large enough to move about and yet intimate enough for quality interaction.
We also had three meal functions during our two day event and I must say, each was outstanding. I was a bit concerned when the meeting agenda mentioned "hot continental breakfast" but amazingly, it was a high quality hot breakfast buffet with eggs, meats, danish pastries and fruit. Lunch that day was also a hot buffet of lasagna and chicken, with salad, rolls and dessert. A bit heavy for a midday meal, but it was delicious!
As someone who does quite a bit of meeting planning, I am always looking for wonderful spaces to hold functions. The Eagle Crest Resort in Ypsilanti has all of the pieces to make for a great meeting destination, whether for a day, a weekend or longer! Close enough to a major city (and airport) with Detroit less than an hour away, and yet out of the hustle and bustle of the city to have a relaxing and productive experience, I would recommend this location to anyone seeking a conference or meeting location in Michigan.
