Prior to our departure, we decided to dine off the beaten track, and during the festival, the local pubs are the places to be. They might not understand English, but sign language does work and the experience is great. The local markets in the various cities are worth some visits. It is definitely the place for fresh fruit and veggies, as well us nuts.
On Thursday, we drove to Sierra Nevada to experience the talked-about white towns around Granada, and, again, it was a worthwhile experience. It was a long day, but worth every minute, especially with the ski resort. Unfortunately, our car could not get over the mountain into Granada, so we missed the Alhambra.
An extremely busy week was topped off with a great round of golf at Los Olivos on Friday and a sunny afternoon at the pool, with bronzed bodies all around.

I was amazed at the large amount of new building projects all across the Costa del Sol. Since it was winter, the activities at the resort were limited. However, there was an abundance of places to visit in the area.

Arcos de la Frontera is one of the most beautiful villages in Spain. Its narrow streets of white houses and huge stone churches hang on the rim of a steep cliff, overlooking the nearby valleys. Arcos can also be a perfect base for trips towards Jerez (Sherry wines), the coast (delicious city of Cádiz... and miles of sandy, deserted beaches) or to the "ruta de los pueblos blancos" (route of the white villages), one of the most charming areas of Andalusia. The Parador is in the heart of the old village, housed in a reconditioned XVIIc palace, in the very edge of the cliff. The views from the terraced restaurant, and from many of the rooms, are simply breathtaking. Good rooms, excellent service.
