Description: This hotel deserves five stars. I have been traveling for 15 years, all of my adult life really, and this is the greatest hotel stay I have ever had. The front desk staff was fantastic, nice, and helpful, and you receive the biggest warmest cookie on check-in I have ever received. The bellmen were fantastic, and they also were so very helpful with taxis, tours, and local information; they were great. The room was cleaned daily and promptly, and the halls and everything were always neat and clean. I never had a problem, and if I needed anything, like a sewing kit or toothbrush, all I had to do was call and they were right up with it.
The Laffitte (off the hotel lobby) is the greatest place to eat in the city. Even when very busy you still get fantastic service and the food is to die for. One night I had a King Rex steak. This is a 1-inch thick steak, and I had it cooked to be well done and I was still able to cut it with a butter knife (no joke - even a plastic knife was able to cut it; it was so tender). Alex, the manager, and all of the staff are fantastic.
With regards to security, I am normally death on them because security guards are normally fools (see Marriott). But the security here is incredible; you do not normally see them, but you feel very safe. On New Years Eve I came back without my wallet (since I had left it to keep it from possible pickpockets), so the security guard was very polite and asked me to step to the front desk to have my information checked. He stayed where he could still watch the doors and the desk. Now most people would cause trouble because they were stopped, but I think it was fantastic. This is how security at a hotel is supposed to be handled. Even the hotel management was fantastic, and it shows in the rank and file of the employees as well.
The Double Tree has my business from now on when I visit New Orleans - they are the greatest hotel I have ever stayed at in 15 years of travel.
