Montreal - More than a French City

A July 2004 trip to Montreal by Trippy71

Quote: GO! The shopping is great, and there is so much to see and do. I highly recommend the youth hostel on Overdale Street for your stays in Montreal. It is cheap, pleasant, and central to everything. Enjoy your stay - I will go back there anytime I can.

I personally stayed in a private room on my last vacation here, but I have stayed in the coed rooms in the past. I highly recommend this hostel, which is cheap and cozy. I met a lot of great people here, and it’s central to everything! There is a great little bar downstairs and a full working kitchen if you feel like cooking a meal. They also offer guided night pub tours of the city.

It's a bit off the beaten track to get to unless you're familiar with the subway and bus routes there. We went during the summer months, and if you like the heat and standing in lines for the best rides, go ahead, but if not, bring a hat, light clothes, and a drink. Other than the heat and lines, I had a blast!!! I ate way too much. It was just an all-around good experience.

Montreal's casino is a bit difficult to get to if you are taking the bus/subway, but there is a lot along the way. It is best to make this a stop after or before La Rhond, as they are close to each other. I was AMAZED at the size of the casino, with four to five floors, and it was so flashy, I felt like I was in Vegas. It is a definite must if you are into having some fun and winning some extra money!
