Trip to Myrtle Beach in the Off Season

A February 2004 trip to Myrtle Beach by KillingtonVT

Quote: We are skiers, but the snow did not cooperate this year, so we went south for a winter vacation. It was like spring, and not crowded. A nice surprise!

    Overview

    Quote:
The best things to do in Myrtle Beach are to play golf, shop, go out to eat, and walk on the beach. We also enjoyed Ripley's Aquarium.

    Quick Tips:

    Best Way To Get Around:

There is a public transportation system, but I would recommend renting a car.

    Yachtsman Resort Hotel

    Hotel | "The Yachtsman"

    Quote:
The rooms at the Yachtsman were a little small, especially the bunk bedroom that my two children were supposed to sleep in. The bed was no longer than 5 feet, and it was stuffed in a room smaller than a walk-in closet. If you sat up on the top bunk, you bumped your head on the ceiling.

To get to the indoor pool, you had to pass by a construction site outside, and then go into another building. There were no facilities to change clothes other than a bathroom.

The staff was friendly, and apologized for the construction.

This place had an emormous buffet with over 120 items, so go hungry! I especially liked the large selection of seafood and salad bar items. The kids liked the dessert bar.
