Today ...Read more I have been dining at China Inn ever since I moved to Milwaukee nearly 20 years ago. Located less than a couple of miles from where I first lived in Wisconsin, it was the neighborhood convenience that first brought me through their doors. Today living nearly 20 miles away, I return there not because it is convenient, but because it's the best.

With outstanding food, a varied menu and a decent value, they did not disappoint. We started with appetizers of fried wontons and egg rolls. These are hand made daily and taste very fresh. While fried, they were not greasy. They crunched when you bit into them, and were full of flavor. David likes the hot mustard, while I enjoy the sweet sauce. YUM!

For dinner entrees, I selected the cashew chicken. While my preference is to have this in a dark brown sauce, here in Milwaukee most places serve this dish in a light white sauce. The vegetables were not overcooked and the chicken plentiful. David had the Hunan beef . . . extra spicy! He really likes it hot and they do a nice job of cooking to order based on the preference expressed.

They used to serve their entrees with a large bowl of rice for each entree ordered. The entrees used to come in a family style serving dish. Often there would be enough of the entree to serve two guests, or for folks to share their dishes. This was the first time that we were served with a small bowl sized mound of white rice right on our plates with the ordered entree. This seemed to be a cost cutting measure, as the portions of both the entree and rice were noticeably reduced from "the old days" and our last visit just six months ago.

On our most recent visit, David and I noted that they had made some other changes to the place too. YIKES . . . we were there on a Saturday night and Karaoke was starting in 20 minutes. They seemed to have a local following as there were several tables of folks enjoying an adult beverage of courage before the show started. We ate our meals promptly in order to not have to endure too much bad singing. (Yes these people were not good!)

About their bar service . . . China Inn does have a full bar including beer, wine and cocktails. I have had frozen beverages here and they were always very good. The prices are fair too. For those not interested in adult beverages, they of course serve hot tea and soft drinks.

Their menu is self-described as "Chinese American" and they do offer an basic assortment of American items including steaks, chicken and sandwiches. On Friday's, they also offer the obligatory Friday Fish Fry. While we have never tried anything other than their Chinese cuisine, I'm confident that folks would find their choices delicious and at a reasonable price.

In addition to dining in, they do offer carry-out. I have found them advertised on Restaurant.com from time to time, but not recently. Currently they are featuring discount coupons on their website so check them out if you are planning a visit: http://www.chinainnrest.com/COUPONS.html .

They are open seven days a week and also feature a lunch and dinner buffets. Again, check their website for days and times for their buffet offerings.
