So off to the Crocodile Park in Torremolinos we go via taxi as we forgot out driving licence but it only took half an hour (in UK it would be much longer but the taxi drivers are formula one drivers in disguise!)
We arrived and it cost approximately 33 euros for a family of five, which is very reasonable compared to the UK. First of all we were welcomed by the staff as if we were old friends and we felt very welcome indeed, a great start.
We proceeded around the park looking at the vast array of crocodiles ranging from very small to some very frightening specimens which would not look out of place in a horror film. I half expected Steve Irwin to pop up from behind one of the enclosures and offer to wrestle one for fun!
Seriously we went on a tour around the complex with a friendly quide who knew everything there is to know about crocodiles and alligators (despite the name, the park does have some of these as well).
One of the highlights for the children was meeting "Big Daddy", the monster crocodile who at 75 years old, is very nimble on his feet despite his dosile look. The guide fed the crocodile with lungs from a cow (not for the faint-hearted although the kids cheered!). Big Daddy snapped the food with such speed it shocked all who witnessed it. He is a lucky crocodile as he is in an enclosure with no less than five wives all aged 25!
But the best part was when a baby three foot long crocodile was brought out (mouth carefully taped up of course!) for anyone who wished to hold it! All three of our triplets looked in amazement as it was carefully passed around. George jumped up first to take a hold, quickly followed by his more timid brother Harry who looked proud as punch at his bravery. Not to be outdone by her brothers, Laura quickly followed suit, much to the amazement of us!
A truly amazing experience, educational but in a fun, safe and friendly environment, a must for all of the family whatever your age, and yes, me and the daddy also held it if you should wonder . . .
It is easy to spend a day out there as there is also a museum and cafe which is air conditioned and very reasonable, as well as a gift shop.
Just some facts for the kids: A crocodile can stay under the water without surfacing for air for two hours! A crocodile can go with out food for two years!
