Located between Fuengirola and Marbella, the resort is easy to reach from Malaga Airport. The resort is fairly large but I felt it was tired and the amenities were not sufficient for a resort of this size. It was difficult to get tables for the evening entertainment and sunbeds around the pool. (There is no area where you can just put down towels.) It is part of the Crown resorts group and there are five resorts in the area within the group, which you can use the facilities of. A free scheduled bus service runs between them.
This resort was too big for us and our first thoughts were what had we done. That being said the staff are extremely helpful and moved us from our allocated apartment as it was next to the road and my daughter suffers from asthma. Although our next apartment was on the top floor the entrance overlooked the pool and even though our balcony overlooked the fronts of other apartments it still felt private.
We had a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment and although the decor was tired, there was plenty of space and privacy. The kitchen had everything necessary to cook any meal and usefully also included a washing machine so you can get the sand out of your towels, etc. There were ceiling fans in every room which are extremely useful in the height of summer. Staff are extremely helpful and multilingual, particularly reception staff. Nothing seems too much trouble. They also run a tourist information desk where you can book tours, which are reasonably priced, tickets for parks, bullfights, etc., and get general info such as where are the best beaches.
I would suggest a car is required to get the most out of your holiday and we treated the resort as a base, often using the pool in the morning and getting out in the afternoon. We went up to the mountains, into Marbella, the old town is fantastic and just generally got out, particularly in the evenings to "promenade" with the locals on various sea fronts. There are stacks of things to do and see in the area. The club has organised some very good rates with local excursion companies and I would recommend the excursion to Tangier in particular.
Although entertainment last until just before midnight, the late nights are something you get used to. It is generally very quiet after this time so sleep is not a problem. Few issues with the amount of teenagers on site although there is nothing to do for them during the day. Now has an indoor swimming pool, sauna, and gym so is catering for all year round.
I won't go here again as I prefer a smaller resort. That being said everything is onsite so you could actually stay there all holiday. If you've got small kids be aware the main pool in 2.5m deep throughout although there is a children's pool on the lower terrace.

The resort is based in Calahonda, on the way to Marbella from the airport.

There are no lifts in the resort, so it would be not be suitable for disabled people or people with a mobility difficulty. There was maid service once a week. I did not like the fact that we had to carry our rubbish to the front end of the resort and put it in a big skip in the external car park. The electricity went out for half an hour once during our stay. A fair distance from the main town, but accessbile by public transport and the resort has transport daily to the beach, local supermarkets - Lidle - yes Lidle's and one lovely supermarket called El Zoro - which has a nice little tapas bar close by - only discovered this last two days of the holiday.
The resort has 24-hour reception duty, but you can only change your money until 10pm and they charged 3 euro for each transaction. The staff was very friendly, helpful, and had a good knowledge of the local area.
The on-site shop is small, but does have fresh bread each day. There are very basic things available. The bar is small, with nightly entertainment, mostly singers. The food was ok and not too expensive, but the drinks were expensive (4.50 euro for a vodka and Coke). There is a nice, little, hidden away terrace behind the bar, which is lovely to sit out and have a drink.
There is a mini children's club, but this was lacking in creativity and my children and grandchild did not rate it highly, preferring to run around and play with their friends. There was not a lot for the children to do and I would not say it was particularly child friendly.
My older daughters enjoyed sunbathing, but it was a quite holiday and I feel that teenagers would become quickly bored. My daughters went into town to attend a disco and enjoyed themselves, but the cab fare was high: 15 euro each way.
There were lots of elderly and middle-aged people on the resort, mingled with youngsters; I would have expected more young people as it was the half-term holidays.

All in all, Club Marbella was a nice place, but we wouldn't stay there again. Don't let the name of the resort confuse you; it is not in Marbella. Next time we will chose a place actually in Marbella or another town.
We went in mid-March and the weather was very disappointing. We only saw the sun for about a total of 15 hours the entire week and it was pretty cool during the days (mid 60s).
Definitely book the day trips to Morocco, Gibraltar, and Granada. Morocco was something totally different, and although I probably wouldn't do it again, I am so glad that I was able to experience it. Plus it's a good way to get another continent/country knocked off the "to do list."

The beaches are marvelous. You can walk and walk and just keep walking. Best Things About the Resort: Everything about the resort is great. The pools are wonderful -- they do a great job of keeping them clean, especially with all the trees around.
The location is great. You are centrally located between Fuengirola and Marbella and can be in either place via the public bus in 20 minutes. Resort Experience: The resort is great. The front desk staff is wonderful. They remember your name and are very friendly.
The rooms themselves are great, too. I was in a two-bedroom unit and there was plenty of space. I had a deck that overlooked the road but still had a great view of the sunset.

The resort is at the top of the hill, but a minibus is available to take guests down to the main road and bring them back up; there are also taxis at the bottom of the hill.
