Description: According to legend, these caves once housed a fearful dragon who was eventually slain by the Irish missionary St. Beatus. But they’re a lot less fearsome now, and easy to reach by bus, car, boat or a substantial and scenic hike, if you’re feeling active. Caves reaching depths of over 3,000 feet are open for exploration, as are a cave museum and restaurant, where you can debate whether it’s stalactites or stalagmites that hang from the cave ceilings. (Hint: it’s stalactites).
