If you want to spend time in the Bernese Oberland, but want the comforts of city life, you can't beat Interlaken. Nestled at the base of the Jungfrau, the Monch, and the Eiger, this small city of 15,000 is the perfect jumping off point for exploring the region.

In 19th-century Switzerland, it seemed promoter’s wildest dream: a resort atop the 4,158-meter Jungfrau. A railroad to haul tourists there. Thousands would pay to ride! You can’t, of course, lay tracks on such an avalanche-swept peak. So, Adolph Guyer built his railroad inside the mountain. Here’s a photographic tour.

Interlaken is rich with dining options. However, in Switzerland dining and everything else can get very pricey. Here are a few dining options that have nice ambiance and are delicious.....and as an added bonus, they are affordable! Have a great time eating your way through Interlaken!

Sitting at the base of the Jungfrau and squarely between two massive lakes is the quaint German-style town of Interlaken, Switzerland. What make this place so special? The people? The mountain views? The wonderful food? The beautiful parks? ALL OF THE ABOVE !

How to enjoy the high Alps and the beautiful lakes of central Switzerland. Go by boat then train to Lauterbrunnen and take the cable car to Muerren for a view of the Jungfrau.

I would like to reveal a really good restaurant we discovered in Interlaken recently. That is the Asian Restaurant on top of the Casa Grande near the train station. The food was outstanding and the prices very reasonable.

Sunny Days B&B, room number 2. We left the doors to the balcony open so in the morning we could see the Jungfrau. Talk about incredible. Could not rise early to see a more awe-inspiring sight. Check out their website.
