Iberostar Paraiso Maya, opened in November 2004, is the newest and most upscale of the Iberostar resorts on Riviera Maya. We enjoyed a week there in August 2005.

Flying in the Middle of a Cave

If you like to trek in caves, this one is much better. You get closer to the stalactites, but also the stalagmites; you can explore the bottom or the ceiling of the cave; and you are almost free and weightless, all of this by scuba diving in Cenote.

The Grand Mayan is part of the enormous Mayan Palace Resort Complex, which is located approximately halfway between Cancun and Playa Del Carmen. There is dining, swimming, water sports, activities, golf, groceries, and entertainment. Bus service to Cancun and Playa del Carmen is available. Other excursions can be arranged.

When you think about the Rivera Maya, you imagine Sun, sand, ocean, palm trees, margaritas, etc. Yes, is all that, but that's not all that is there to experience, you also have jungles, pyramids, etc. just at arms reach if you leave your comfy spot at the beach.

We visited an all inclusive, The Barcelo Maya Palace for four nights. We spent most of our time at the resort, but did take one day trip to visit the sites.
