We explored Western Switzerland on day trips from Lausanne. Lausanne itself, with its churches and museums (and what a lot of those there are!)—and the picturesque Lac Leman—proved to be an interesting, historic and pretty town. In fact, we ended up liking this lovely city a lot.

Summer in Switzerland

I lived here for a summer, working as a nanny. The Alps and the people are great, but bring a friend to share them with. My main companion was a 8-month old Swiss baby boy and while he was adorable, he wasn't able to help me improve my French much.

After a spectacular summer spent in Switzerland writing for "Let's Go" travel guides, I decided to do a thesis research in the city of Lausanne on the shores of Lake Geneva/Lac Leman. Here are a few of my observations.

Lausanne was our hub during our trip to Switzerland in May 2001. This lovely city is built on the slopes of Mont Jorat, on the northern shores of Lake Geneva (Lac Leman).
