Green Island off the Southeast of Taiwan is worth the rather harsh boat ride. Although I didn't contribute to the 50 gallon drums, most passengers did from being sick. Non verbal communication efforts affords some extremely rare Mother Nature offerings

Vacation in Taipei, although often overlooked by tourists, can be a wonderful experience (once you adapt to the weather). The city bustles with nightlife and culture (if you know where to look) and whether you’re looking to buy pirated CD’s or eat a snake, it can all be found here.

Well, of course that depends on whether you like cities--even then, Taipei's architecture is just ugly. But the Taiwanese are friendly, and Taipei has interesting sights. If cities are not your thing, spend a couple of days then get out to the countryside.
