Nanjing, the proud city with a tragic history. Rising from the dust of distress, and bursting into the flame of triumph, this beautiful city is a real life story of the power of perseverance and determination.

I visited friends in Nanjing, a city 1.5 hrs. away from the city where I am teaching (Changzhou). I plan on visiting again from time to time and will probably add considerably to this journal as I do so.

I spent a few weeks in Nanjing this summer to study Mandarin. Unlike Beijing and Shanghai, Nanjing is more relaxed and accomodating. The city offers great street food, a dynamic past, and just enough nightlife.

Nanjing is one of China's most attractive cities. Though it's large and modern, there are still plenty of sites here to remind you of its long historical heritage. Though it's a large city, it never had the crowded and crazy of Beijing or Shanghai.
