Our stay in Ubud was glorious. The journey to the resort was quite an experience for two U.S. city slickers but the serenity of Hanging Gardens quickly allowed you to forget the ride there. We found the staff to be attentive and courteous as were most of the people we met in Bali. The Restaurant in the resort was probably expensive by Indonesian standards but for us dinner at the resort was a treat and reasonable. The food was gourmet quality and each night the wait staff would bring us a complimentary sample of an appetizer or dessert. It really was wonderful. The atmosphere at the resort was relaxed and casual. The grounds were immaculate and the in room information pamphlet showed the exotic trees that were on the property. It was fun to hunt for them. The complimentary fruit in our room even had a pamphlet describing what it was. The salak was our favorite, unfortunately we'll probably never have it again unless we go back to Indonesia. As for the view, villa allowed you to see across the gorge. We couldn't see the river but if you walk to the bottom of the resorts path you can get close enough to hear it. The early morning wild monkeys were blast to watch. The resort has a convenient funicular that takes you to the different levels as the villas and restaurant and main lobby are on all different levels. The sunsets were gorgeous. The sky turned every shade of pink and orange as the surroundings disappeared and the stars came alive. The temple across the gorge was lit beautifully in the evening and created a dramatic backdrop for a romantic dinner. I would highly recommend this resort to couples, honeymooners or anyone who wants to relax and spend time lounging around. The resort has a spa but we didn't use it. If we had the chance we'd go back in a minute...
