The hostel is located in the Gastown District, so it's a great place for a little bit of eating, drinking, partying, and shopping, or just drinking coffee.

On the downside the hostel is pretty small and cramped, doesn’t have any organised activities and it''s not the easiest place to meet people - there’s no common room and only a small kitchen and TV room (you’ll need a $10 deposit for the remote control). While the location is very convenient, it''s also sandwiched between two very noisy late night bars, and in one of the rooms I stayed in, the window was broken and couldn’t be closed.
If you’re willing to overlook all of these points, the hostel is cheap and central.

The rooms have from 2 to 8 double sized beds, mixed sex. The most notable feature of The Cambie is it''s downstairs Bar & Grill. The food is great, and the beers the cheapest in Van, which brings out a boisterous crowd. YOU WILL HEAR IT. The bar isn''t a hostel bar, it''s a local bar. On my first trip, I made friends with Van kids, which worked out exceedingly well for me. However on the second, more extended trip, I realized that the facilities are very limited for pairing up with other travelers.
Other than a very limited TV room, which only people staying on the second floor can go to, there''s no opportunity to socialize with anyone other than roommates. My biggest complaint with The Cambie, though, was the fact that I got bed bugs, which was terrible. Additionally, after I complained about the bed bugs I was told I would have to stay in the same bed that night. I ended up sleeping out.
A note on location: Located in Gastown, the most touristy drag of town. However it is close to Vancouver Harbor, which is beautiful at night. On the negative side, it''s also right of Hastings Rd., which leads to Smack Town (Vancouver has N. Amer''s highest amt. of IV drug users). While although not particularly dangerous, it is the worst part of Van, and be prepared for homelessness and open drug use.
