Description: The spacious room at this hotel contained not only a king sized bed but a couch with pull-out bed, a stuffed chair, small desk, bookcase with interesting reading, a bench, an amoire with honor bar and remote TV, a small built-in seating area and a small closet. The room was long and thin but that was fine. The bed was comfy, the sheets felt like cotton and the blankets were adequate. They stock Aveda bath products in the standard hotel bathroom. The towels were plush and nice. There was absolutely no view from our room (316) but most likely that accounted for the incredible sleep that I got there. Usually San Francisco hotels are noisy just because they are in the city. This is the quietest room I have stayed in in San Francisco. Included with the room is evening wine and snacks (which we missed) and continental breakfast in the attractive lobby. The breakfast will tide you over until you can get something else to eat. Parking is valet at 32 dollars or self-park 2 blocks away for $24. I'd recommend checking out the Stockton-Sutter Garage which is less than half a block away.
A big bonus at this hotel is its location, just a block or so from Chinatown, close to Union Square and Nob Hill. The hotel staff were all pleasant. The furnishings are stylish. As nice as the rooms seem, they ought to replace the carpeting in the stairwells as it seems somewhat threadbare. Maybe no one takes the stairs but it beats waiting for the elevator. Overall, a really nice place to stay.
