I stayed in a private room. The price is competitive with other hostels and is half the price of hotel rooms in the same neighborhood. This hostel is great for its central location. It is very close to Union Square, Market Street, and Nob Hill. It is also close to the Tenderloin, a rough neighborhood that should be avoided at night. Be careful, there are usually homeless people outside the hostel asking for money, however they are quite harmless.
The hostel is relatively clean. The shower rooms are small and for one person only, so sometimes you have to wait. The staff are friendly. To go inside, you have to show proof you are staying there, so it has reasonable security. There is free wireless Internet in the building, however it does not reach to some rooms. There are tons of restaurants for all budget types located nearby. I recommend this hostel for its prime location.

The dorm rooms are clean and fairly spacious but share bathrooms with another dorm room, which can be disconcerting as you can't lock the bathroom doors from the inside.
The hostel is extremely security conscious--you have to flash your receipt every time you enter, so don't lose it! There's a separate storage facility in the building next door--which you'll need if you decide to change rooms during your stay; it's a real pain as you have to check out at 11am and can't check back in until after 2pm.
