Description: Best Things Nearby:
Best things nearby: The beach, the shows, amusement parks, outlet malls, and shopping, and more restaurants than you can count.
Best Things About the Resort:
Best things about the resort: The "location" is great. Located a few miles south of the "main" part of busy Myrtle Beach, the location is not as crowded as at many other area resorts. The resort itself is across the street from the ocean, but it owns a small private beach club (Breezes) right across Ocean Boulevard which has its own pool and provides resort guests with direct access to the beach.
Resort Experience:
The "Gold Crown" South Beach Resort is quite new, and there is a still a lot of ongoing construction.
We had called ahead, requesting a top floor, and were pleased that the "reservations" folks had honored our request. Check-in took less than 5 minutes, and we were on our way.
The amenities at this resort are excellent. Our two-bedroom unit was immaculate. Both bedrooms had king beds and large 32" TVs. The master bath had a whirlpool tub, double sink, and a 3’x4’ walk-in shower, while the second bathroom had a single sink and curtained tub/shower. A large (6’x12’) patio opened off both the master bedroom and the living room. The living room had a good-quality sofa bed (not squishy like some resorts'), two large chairs, a 36" TV, and a gas fireplace. There were 9’ ceilings throughout. Because of the construction going right next to our building (Building C), the fireplace wasn’t working yet, so if a fireplace is important to you throughout 2005, we’d recommend you request Building A. The well-lit kitchen had ample cabinet space (including a pantry), and had hard-surface countertops. The "stackable" washer and dryer were small but sufficient for our week’s stay. All the décor in the unit was colorful and attractive and featured a South Beach theme consistent with the resort’s name. Local and 800 calls are free. All buildings have four floors, and all have elevators.
South Beach Resort does not require that you fill out an inventory check list, and we did notice that a number of items were missing from the kitchen, including some utensils, glassware, and even one of the counter stools. One of the kitchen lights was not working correctly, and one of the phones was broken. After a second call to the front desk, maintenance did finally arrive. They checked the light, took the defective phone, and noted the missing items, but none of these reported items were repaired or replaced during our stay.
The on-site activities at South Beach are some of the best we have seen anywhere. In addition to an 18-hole par-3 golf course ON PROPERTY, weekly scheduled activities include a breakfast social, an wine and cheese social, various craft programs, an 8-ball tournament, water aerobics, yoga, an ice cream social, and a movie night. The resort has an indoor and outdoor pool, hot tub, "lazy river", fitness center, billiards room, video game room, horseshoe pits, and a volleyball court. Two computers are available (at no charge) in the clubhouse for guests to use. The clubhouse also has a lending library and an "endless" free coffee pot that is filled all day long.
We felt that South Beach Resort provided a true "Gold Crown" experience. You will, too.
