This hotel is one of the tallest buildings in the area. If you want a great view ask for a room on
a higher floor. The top 3 floors (21-23) are reserved for Marriott Club members. Facilities are
well-maintained although nothing special. (Do all 5-star hotels buy their furniture and paintings
from the same place?) The ground floor restaurant has an excellent selection for the breakfast
buffet and their staff are friendly.
This hotel is located in the center of town and is within walking distance to the old Malacca
town. There are plenty of food locations around the hotel, so you don't have to eat in if you
don't want to. The hotel was also offering a regular shuttle service to the 2 new shopping malls
during our stay.
HOWEVER, there are also significant shortcomings with this hotel. The telephone operator NEVER
answers their line. (Tried multiple times over the 4 days we stayed.) If you want anything from
housekeeping, you have to walk down to the lobby and ask the front desk. This hotel is also one of
those that won't change your bedding unless you leave a special card on your bed. Even when you do
so, the staff would try to ignore the card and reuse the old sheets unless you complain. You can't
do this over the phone since nobody will pick up.
On returning to our room on the third night of our stay, we found one of the beds half-made. The
housekeeping staff had simply thrown the rest of the sheets on a chair and left when their shift
was done! Naturally, we tried to contact housekeeping on the phone about this but nobody was
answering their phone. So, we went downstairs to talk to the front desk (again!). We were finally
told that housekeeping only operates during the day and we would have to make do until morning.
This is obviously not the standard of service one would expect from a 5-star hotel (or 4-star or
even 3-star)! The primary purpose of a hotel is to have a place to sleep during your stay. If a
hotel cannot even meet this function, what is it doing?
In conclusion, excellent facilities but terrible service. This does not apply to the restaurant.
They do their job well.
