In the research I did on this hotel before booking, everyone said to ask for the West Wing. We decided to see what the West Wing rooms looked like by walking through the hallways there the next morning while the housekeepers were cleaning. We told them we just wanted to take a peek at the room to see if it was worth it to pay for an upgrade. Well, the rooms there are spacious and beautiful and, unlike both the East Wing and Executive Floors, there are ice machines on each floor. We then went to the Executive Floors to see what those rooms were like and then went to the Front Desk to see what we could do about upgrading. The same clerk who checked us in the day before told us that to upgrade to the Executive Level we would have to pay 30£ per night; the West Wing would be 50£ per night.
We decided to do the 30£ upgrade. We would be out all day, so the clerk said to leave our packed bags by the door of our old room and they would move us while we were out. We stopped by the Front Desk around 4 p.m. that afternoon to pick up the keys to our new room, which was a tad larger than the old room, but had nicer furnishings and a much better bathroom. The only problem was it was on the 4th floor and we could hear traffic noise at night. But we were happy with the room and decided to keep it. Being on the Executive Level gave us access to the Executive Lounge on the 2nd Floor which we used for a light breakfast every morning. We opted for cocktails in our room and small bucket of ice was available from any bar free of charge. If I had it to do over again, I would have paid the 50£ and upgraded to the West Wing, whose rooms (I hear) are quieter. I must also say a word about the staff. Each and every staff member we met in the hotel met us with a kind word and a smile.
