Great location and great stay ovarall but the wireless network is slow and given the rates on this hotel, I think internet should be offered for free. Other than that it was a great stay in Seoul.

I stayed at the Renaissance Seoul in September 2010 and enjoyed my stay very much.

Let me start by saying I should have asked some follow-up questions when my Korean friends asked me ominously "Why are you staying THERE?" Unknown to me at the time the Renaissance Hotel is located in an area known for its "room salons" the Korean equivalent to the notorious "massage parlor". Though the hotel looks very upscale at first glance I suspect they secretly bus in guests from the local Motel 6 and highway rest areas to populate the rooms after 11:00 p.m. Now I know that sounds elitist and snobbish but for the prices this hotel charges (and its self-proclaimed 5 star rating) I believe it a reasonable request to not have to sleep next door to a raging frat party or a room in a brothel. If you intend on getting any rest during your trip to Seoul I would highly recommend staying elsewhere...unless of course the sounds of drunken, sloppy sex and frat parties help you to fall asleep at night. Speaking for the hotel itself, it is a little on the old side needing some upgrades to make it more comfortable...the first of which (in my opinion) being an adjustable thermostat for each room. Though there is a thermostat located in the room, the room temperature cannot be adjusted and you are stuck with the temperature set by the hotel. I traveled to Seoul during the winter with the outside temperature in the low 20's and 30's. Inside the hotel tried to compensate by cranking up the temperature in the rooms to a stifling 80 degrees (which resulted in my room temperature actually reaching 86 degree in the day with the sun coming through the windows). Outside I was bundled up like an arctic explorer inside I was forced to lounge around in my boxers to avoid heat stroke. Though the hotel staff is, for the most part, courteous, polite and friendly, and the rooms are relatively clean, it does not justify the outrageous prices (about $35 per person for the breakfast buffet and $30 a day for internet use on top of your room rate…oh and don’t bother bringing a MAC either as it is not supported as of 12/2010).

Now for informational purposes only I would like to say that I am a Platinum Elite rewards status member (…seriously I’m not trying to brag this only means I spend entirely too much time traveling and staying in hotels and as a reward for my loyalty (stupidity, laziness) to a particular hotel am purportedly offered certain perks (which for this stay included a complimentary bottle of wine with accompanying plate of assorted snacks delivered to my room upon check-in, free use of the executive lounge, swimming pool, health club, free breakfast buffet …the same one mentioned above… and allegedly a "Superior Deluxe" guest room on the "Executive Level" (floors 19 and above) of the hotel) during my stay. All that being the case I would not stay at this hotel again. I would rather pay out of pocket for a hotel room that doesn’t include the sounds of banging headboards, drunken arguing and broken beer bottles (all complimentary of course) till the wee hours of the morning.
