I walked from the domestic terminal because I didn’t know how to connect with the shuttle (which is not operated by the hotel) but it is too far to be comfortable with luggage. It is the first 3 star international hotel in the Sydney Airport precinct.

This new hotel offers fair value for money, is ideal for long airline layovers but is also a viable option if you have business south of the central city or plan to go to the central area every day. It provides comfortable, modern accommodation with in-house restaurant and bar facilities. I stayed here recently when I had difficulty finding a central city hotel. A further incentive for me was that I had a 7am flight and I knew the hotel had a shuttle bus that would get me to the terminal on time.

Ibis is a world-wide brand and most people know what to expect. This property was a typical ‘no-frills’ Ibis with better than average food and beverage facilities due no-doubt to the lack of alternatives in the immediate vicinity. The award winning 80 seat restaurant, ibistro, offers an a la carte menu from 5.30am to 10.30pm. Alternative meal options are available 24 hours a day. The cocktail bar is open until midnight whilst reception is open 24 hours a day - seven days a week. Car parking is also available for in-house guests at a rate of A$12.00 per vehicle per night. Ibis is a 20 minutes drive from the CBD, and the local train station, Mascot, a 10 minute walk away. Trains to the city only take 10 minutes.

The 3-star hotel has the usual facilities you would expect. There is a bar / lounge, currency exchange services. disabled facilities, internet access - high speed and wireless, laundry Service, elevator and safe deposit box. This hotel is 100% non smoking and offers broadband internet access in each of its 200 guest rooms.

The rooms are pretty standard but they are a reasonable size. As there are hundreds of Ibis hotels around the world and all are pretty much the same, you would hope that the owners have got the arrangement correct. It seems pretty good to me with the very small closet perhaps the only thing I would complain about. Each room have small wall mounted LCD TV's and broadband internet access, air conditioning, alarm clock, ensuite and bathroom amenities, hairdryer, heating, iron / ironing board, kettle, modem / data port connection, pay-per-view movies, radio and refrigerator.

I was surprised about the amount of noise that gets into the room from the corridor. Doors close with a loud bang and this was a problem during the night but you could also hear people talking as they walked past the room. I suspect that there may be a room to room problem as well as the TV maximum volume is adjusted so that it is just sufficient to be clear within the room. I personally did not hear anything from an adjacent room.
