Putters is a small golf themed bar and grill located across the street from the Sandals Grande Antigua Resort. After a dinner party one evening, a few friends and I visited the bar to socialize and have a few drinks. On our arrival, the bar wasn't packed but at 8:30pm, the night was still pretty young.

Putters Bar and Grill is open from late afternoon into the evening, and the mini golf course which spans a large area of the property provides a unique form of entertainment. The golf course is exceptionally popular with young adults, however it's not uncommon to see smaller children on the 'green' as their parents grab a drink or two at the bar.

In my opinion, the Putters resembled what I would imagine an adult Chuck E Cheese would look like. Aside from the mini golf course, there was an entire area dedicated to various types of games such as pool, fusball and air hockey. I even caught sight of a pinball machine! It undoubtedly generated a carefree ambience and everyone including the staff appeared to be easy-going and friendly.

We grabbed one of the larger tables for ourselves and sent two friends to order a round of tequila shots. After a short wait, or small glasses were placed in front of us with a shaker of salt, and a glass filled with sliced lemons. Immediately after we braved the shot, the staff quickly cleared our empty glassware even as some of my table mates tried to regain their composure.

It was at this point that I heard some happy squeals and giggles. Looking over the railing of the patio, I discovered that there was a small playground next to the golf course, complete with a jungle gym, swings, slides and even a rope ladders for climbing. A group of children were happily clambering about on the jungle gym and it was pretty easy to identify the parents, as they kept watchful gazes from their table on the patio.

The patio at Putters was brightly lit by stringed light bulbs which covered the walls and banister. These lights were the only means of illumination, apart from the blue backlight at the bar. I believe that the reason why the lighting was so dim, was because of the large outdoor movie theatre. There was apparently a football game going on, and several fans had taken up residence in the closest seats available. The volume wasn't intrusive, so it was rather easy to tune out.

Putters has a decent meal menu, including chicken wings for USD $7, pasta, and thick steaks grilled right on the spot with a price tag of $20. The prices were affordable, but seeing as I was still stuffed from my previous meal, I craved a drink and bought a Mudslide instead. The sweet creamy concoction was exactly what the doctor had ordered, and the bartender whipped up the cocktail in record time.

Speaking to the bartender, I found out that various events are held during the week, including Trivia Night on Thursdays. Live bands are brought in on special evenings and DJs spin tracks on the turntables on other nights. The crew at Putters definitely make an effort to keep things lively.

The bar is open all week from 5pm to the early hours of the morning. So whether you're looking for a place to unwind after a hard day at work, or a spot to hang out with a group of friends, Putters is a reliable bar to grab a few drinks. Parking is available, free of cost but spaces are rather limited, so if you arrive late, prepare to park on the street.

My friends and I spent the better part of the night having a really great time at Putters. The staff, the admirable service and jovial atmosphere made it a winner in my opinion. Although we didn't attempt to try our skills on the golf course, we had a 'swinging' time regardless! Read Less

A very common way to spend an evening in Antigua is to participate in one of the many different Karaoke events being held. Many different bars, restaurants and even casinos dedicate an evening during the week to this vocal occasion and many people faithfully attend, whether to belt out a note or two, or to simply offer support by means of claps and whistles.

On Friday and Saturdays, C&C Wine Bar in Redcliffe Quay downtown St. John's gets the weekend started with it's weekly Karaoke Nights. Guests are seated at small tables outside under the stars, while the Karaoke team operates using a small screen and several speaker systems.

Song books are placed on each table, along with a pad and pencil with which guests are encouraged to write down their song of choice. A member of staff will routinely pass by to collect the papers and transfer them to the MC who will then call your name when the time comes. Due to the wide array of South African and Chilean wines in stock at C&C, many people turn up and seating arrangements become rather limited, so if you arrive late, there may be a short wait before being seated.

I enjoy the karaoke at C&C and I've sung a few songs on numerous nights. The crowd is usually energetic, and after sipping on wine, everyone wants a turn on the mic. The Karaoke staff is lots of fun, but parents should be aware that some of the jokes that are told aren't fit for young ones. In short, this is a great option for light hearted adult entertainment.

On Sundays, the next best Karaoke event sparks to life at the Kings Casino in Heritage Quay. After 7pm, many of the patrons pause their activity on the slot machines and grab a drink at the bar, where the Karaoke screens and mics are set up. Some of the regular attendees have really great voices, and several others do their best to 'carry their own key'.

Other places on the island which offer evenings on the microphones are The Crow's Nest on Wednesdays and Westpoint Bar and Restaurant in Jolly Beach.

Karaoke in Antigua provides a bit of live entertainment in conjunction with alcoholic beverages, and all in attendance are sure to have a good time.

Mad Mongoose is the most popular bar in the entire village of English Harbour, and on almost any given night, a lively crowd is pretty much guaranteed. What makes this bar stand out from the others is the way it is structured. There's the bar area, a separate section with pool tables, a small dancefloor inside and an outside patio with umbrellas and benches.

The Bar Area
The actual bar itself at Mad Mongoose is pretty small in size, housing only about ten bar stools. On busy nights, sitting at the bar is almost impossible however, as crowds of partygoers pretty much squeeze into every available space nearby while trying to order drinks.

The bartenders are always busy, but the establishment never seems to be understaffed. The longest I've ever waited to be served was 8 minutes or so, but that was for a cocktail which needed to be mixed in a blender. What I love about the bar is the interesting selection of beers. They have the imported staples such as Heineken, local beers such as Wadadli and Carib and several others such as Presidente from the Dominican Republic.

Pool and Dining Area
A few wooden tables and chairs allow patrons to enjoy some of the good food which the bar has to offer. Although I have never eaten at Mad Mongoose, I did take a look at the menu, and the prices were affordable and the options were varied.

I did however, play pool with my friends many times. The pool tables can be activated for $2 Easter Caribbean Dollars, although busy weekend nights may require you to wait in line. If pool doesn't catch your fancy, there's also a foozeball table and a wall where you can throw darts.

The Dancefloor
This part of Mad Mongoose is nothing fancy, but rather it's a small space where guests can dance to the music which is played by local Djs. On Friday and Saturday nights, the DJ is replaced by live bands playing reggae, soca and several other types of Caribbean jams. Everyone is usually very laid back, and there's no need to dress up. Jeans, sneakers, and even flipflops are allowed here.

The Patio
This is personally my favourite section of Mad Mongoose, once the weather allows it of course!
The music isn't that loud out there, so it's a great place to sit, drink and talk with people. I've met a lot of interesting people here, and it's an ideal spot to people watch. The only thing about being outside, is the fact that you need to go back inside to order drinks, most likely fighting through a crowd of people to reach the bar.

The Mad Mongoose is frequented mostly by sailors and other persons in the yachting community. Visitors from all over the world congregate here on a nightly basis, and the bar is a melting pot of different ethnicities, languages and accents. If you're looking for a bar with mostly local patrons, this is not the place. Yes, locals are present, but there are far from being in the majority.

The location is very ideal, and the entire area is always active at any hour of the night. Safety is not a large concern as the English Harbour Police Station is within a short walking distance. If you are driving, there is a large parking area just across the street which is free of charge!

The Mad Mongoose is a really busy bar, especially during Happy Hour, so if you want to be where the action is, here is the place to be. There are theme nights ever so often where guests are asked to dress up as pirates or other characters, and lots of people get into the spirit of things. I love everything about this bar, and wouldn't change it for anything! I definitely recommend! Read Less

This small club is attached to the Antigua Yacht Club located in English Harbour. During the day, it operates as a restaurant, serving Caribbean cuisine to countless yachties and other visitors, but when the night falls, the atmosphere makes a 180 degree turn from chilled out to wild out! Parties can be found year round, but during the Spring and Summer months is the best time to see this club in full gear due to the abundance of yachts in the marinas.

My friends and I wanted to hang out at a spot where everyone from the staff to the clubgoers themselves were a happy and friendly bunch. We knew we made a great choice, because as soon as we arrived, the bartenders introduced themselves, shook hands and then smacked a friendly kiss on our cheeks as welcome. I started of my evening with a bottle of Presidente beer, the lager of the Dominican Republic. The price was reasonable at $3 USD a bottle. The drink was ice cold and helped to cool me off as I geared up for the dance floor.

After sipping on our first drink of the night, we asked one of our new bartender friends to please take a photo, and the instant that there was a lull at the bar, he happily obliged. He actually took three different shots in order to give us a variety to choose our favourite picture. The customer service was really wonderful.

Although it was only 11pm, Cloggies was already in full swing with guests jamming and grooving to the lastest House music, Trance, Hip Hop and Pop music. One of Antigua's favourite Disc Jockeys, 'DJ Woody' was in the building, and he kept spinning the perfect tunes to encourage everyone to get up and get moving! The music seamlessly flowed from one song to another and my friends and I worked up quite a sweat trying to keep up.

The décor of the club which is actually very laid back with many nautical trinkets scattered about such as tiny wooden sailboats and photographs taken at sea during various sailing regattas was transformed into an atmosphere to be envied by any Rave, due to the crazy amount of flashing strobe lights and colourful laser beams. The light display added to the billowing fog generated by smoke machines on the roof created the perfect club scene and my friends and I were swept away on the tides of fun.

After a while, we returned to the bar for well needed drinks. I ordered a mixed drink containing Cavalier Rum and a Trinidadian soft drink called LLB. The portion was beyond decent and cost me about $4 USD. One of my friends ordered a Vodka and Ting mixed drink which cost her the same as mine, so I encourage future patrons to budget as such.

Eventually we got rather tired, so we headed towards the many wooden tables and chairs which were situated on the verandah of Cloggies. The view from our seating quarters offered a spectacular seascape of the Falmouth Harbour. Some of the yachts only had on their red lights at the top of their masts, while others were quite beautifully glowing. Sipping on cold drinks with our feet up on the railing was a great way to wind down the night.

Cloggies is a great spot to hang out whether during the day or for an epic night on the town. I sincerely recommend! Read Less
