We chose the Young Federation Motor Inn because it has 4 star luxury accommodation right in the heart of Young. This puts it close to all local attractions and allows easy access to wineries, orchards, and the historic sites of the nineteenth century goldmining town.

There were 30 ground-level suites with individual car parks - all with queen sized beds and eight with their own private spa bath. Our suite had air conditioning, alarm clock, hairdryer, iron & ironing board, mini bar, opening windows, direct dial telephone, radio, internet connection, refrigerator, TV with satellite / cable, and tea/coffee making facilities. There was a shower over the bath in the bathroom. We checked out an executive room and this had bathrobes, clothes line, desk, and spa bath in addition to the other facilities.

We were impressed with the size of the room. Many places we visit these days seemed cramped but here there was space to spread out. The room was large enough to stay in for a week. There was a sofa and coffee table and my wife commented that there was a real homely atmosphere. One unusual feature was the sink/handbasin in the corner of the main room rather than the bathroom but this seemed to work well for us.

The motor inn is owned by the Young Services Club so you receive complimentary membership to the club while staying here. This is very convenient because the club is directly across the street and you can use the Cafe, Bistro, Restaurant, bars and sporting facilities that are there. Charge back facilities for Club food and beverages can be arranged to your account. If you are into gambling you don’t even have to leave the room because the TV has Club Keno on line.

Room service was on call throughout the day, and laundry and dry-cleaning services are also available. No lunches or dinners are available but you can enjoy a hearty country breakfast in your suite if you order the evening before. There is a saltwater swimming pool with a sundeck and cabana and this was a great place to relax. The motor inn is very popular and has a high occupancy rate but we only saw one other guest use the pool while we were there.

This is probably the best accommodation available in town and most people would be more than satisfied with the facilities.

The park is centrally located being only five minutes’ walk to the main shopping area in Boorowa Street.

Facilities include a swimming pool, camp kitchen, children's playground and a rotunda with a fire place. Electric barbecues are also available and there is a large amenities block which includes a fully equipped laundry and a disabled bathroom facility. There are powered sites and en suite sites for caravans as well as unpowered sites for tents. Town water, sullage and a dump point are available. You can stay in a modern van with en-suite and colour TV.

Owners Len and Karen are enthusiastic and helpful but they also have strict rules designed to make a stay enjoyable. No visitors are allowed in the pool and children must be accompanied by an adult. The pool closes at 9pm and no noise is permitted throughout the park after 10pm. Visitors are only permitted to stay for one hour and must leave by 8pm. No smoking is permitted indoors. The result of all this is a very customer-friendly park which encourages people to come back again.

There is also a range of cabins to choose, ranging from the deluxe two bedroom cabins with en suite to the basic cabin with no en suite. Cabins are named after cherry varieties so there are names such as Florence, Stellas, Bings etc. Cabins have a cooktop, microwave, refrigerator and TV. Blankets and linen are required but these can be rented if required.

In an attempt to improve the visitor experience, the Park offers a 4 cent discount on fuel at a local service station, a discount on admission to the Temora Aviation Museum and 10% off local wines at a supermarket.

Powered sites are $27.50 per night for the whole year while en-suite cabins start at $70 per night.

Mullino's is a licensed Bar & Grill whose menu offers a wide range of choices, including steaks with a full selection of sauces, butters and mustards. Side dishes include seasonal greens, various potato choices, beer battered onion rings, prawns in garlic and mushrooms with garlic & parsley.

Restored to its former glory, Mullino boasts a warm and cosy restaurant, comfy lounge area, traditional dining room and private function and meeting rooms. The outdoor courtyard is family friendly with side access for prams.

The Masonic Hall which houses the restaurant was built in 1888. It was the second hall built in Young for the Masons. The first building, built in 1876, burnt in the great fire which destroyed almost one side of the main street. The building as it stands today was built in two sections. The front part with the columned portico in 1888 and the large two storey halls added early last century.

The two Lodges in Young are some of the earliest in Australia being Lodge numbers 19 and 20. There is a large room upstairs where the Masons had meetings. This room still contains furniture and floor coverings from the time when the Masons used the area for their meetings. The Lodge members have allowed the restaurant to display the memorial board of the Masons that served in WW1 and WW11 and a large framed collection of photo portraits of Masons from 1910. The smaller ante rooms up and downstairs are now used for meetings and private functions.

Mullino is a premier food, beverage and entertainment venue right in the heart of town serving seasonally influenced modern Australian dishes. I had an Angus rib-eye steak, my wife had chicken and a friend had an eye-fillet. The meals came with garden salad and a choice of chips or baked jacket potato and a sauce. I chose the red wine jus from alternatives of wild mushroom, Romesco and salsa verde.
The quality of the food was outstanding. So too, was the wine. We had a bottle of 2006 Chalkers Crossing cabernet sauvignon ($32.50) a local Hilltops wine. My wife had a glass of 2007 Grove Estate Semillon which was available in a 375ml bottle ($15.50) or by the glass ($7.50).

Following was a delicious selection of desserts including Tiramisu, Cherry & Almond Cassata and many more. I was not at all surprised to discover that this restaurant was the 2009 winner of the Restaurant and catering Award for Excellence in the category ‘Informal Dining for the ACT & Southern NSW Region’.

The first judge was an industry professional who quizzed the staff’s product knowledge and tasted a sample of products to confirm their quality, without revealing who they were. The second round of judging was done by a group of mystery shoppers who tested Wilders’ customer service by being deliberately difficult. For example, they might have been very fussy about the food they ordered and very demanding of staff.

"Two things really stood out," said Wendy Dunk, who owns Wilders with her brother, Alan Wilder. "Our customer service and, apparently, they walked the street and just asked people where’s a good place to get something to eat and drink and they were blown away by the response."

Wilders Bakery was established by Mrs Dunk and Alan Wilder’s parents in 1950. In 1989 the brother and sister team took over the business established by Olga and Milty. They are constantly training their own bakery apprentices and up-skilling the shop front people. This shows in the fact that turnover is up 35% since 2008.

We went here for breakfast and were delighted with the thickly sliced raison toast and smooth dark coffee. We decided to eat upstairs and were amazed to find how extensive the eating area was. It was also stylish and it became clear why this place could win an award.

Wilders bake daily on the premises. Pies, sausage rolls, cakes, cherry pies and light meals are a speciality. They provide breakfast , lunch and morning and afternoon teas as eat in and take away meals. As well there is a full range of refreshments.

They open Monday - Friday 6.00am to 5.00pm & Saturday - Sunday 8.00am to 3.00pm

The old world charm of the 1930s greets visitors here at the Commercial, where some genuine design from the art deco era has blended in seamlessly with a more modern refurbishing. The revamped kitchen caters for more upmarket tastes, with dishes like the rib eye fillet and the garlic prawns raising eyebrows.

The Australian pub or hotel is a direct descendant of the English public house. The production and consumption of alcoholic drinks has long played a key role in Western commerce and social activity, and this is reflected in the importance of pubs in Australia. However, in the 19th century the local version evolved a number of distinctive features that set it apart from the classic British pub. For one thing, because of Australia's high summer temperatures, wide awnings and verandahs were common around pub exteriors, as they were for most colonial-era commercial buildings. The Commercial nicely fits this stereotype.

Australia's beer-drinking culture is descended from the northern European tradition, which favoured grain-derived beverages like beer and spirits. Australia has long had one of the highest per capita rates of beer consumption in the world. But these days pubs have changed and food and gambling have become as important as beer.

We decided to stay for lunch and this was a good decision. The restaurant opens daily from noon to 2pm and from 6pm to 9pm .

The food can be described as Modern Australian. Mains start at around $10.00. We had a seafood platter ($15.00), a T-bone steak ($17.50) and a chicken Caesar ($14.50). All three dishes met our expectations. There was a children’s menu and a very tempting sticky date pudding at $6.00. The restaurant is quite large and would seat 100 people. It is wheelchair accessible.

As we left the restaurant, we were attracted into a nearby coffee shop which was of a standard unknown in most country towns just a few years ago. It was a great way to finish a meal.
