Quote: The waters of Lake Chiemsee are said to have spiritual powers, especially for women. A beautiful deep blue lake surrounded by snow capped peaks, Lake Chiemsee is often shrouded in a mist but when the mist lifts, the action begins.

SPIRITUAL LAKE CHIEMSEE

Overview

Quote:
There are three islands to visit by ferry, all unique. Herrenchiemsee, King Luwig II's rendition of the Palace of Versailles. Frauenchiemsee, Home to an old Benedictine abbey and the smallest, a bird sanctuary.

Quick Tips:

There are many hotels here, some expensive but if you are in the forces there is a US Army recreation center with great rates.

Best Way To Get Around:

Boat, car, bike and walking are all common here.

This hotel is large and luxurious. At 4 stars, the rooms are large and well furnished with views of the lake. The restaurant serves delicious German cuisine. It is a little expensive but worth the extra cost.

BierFest

Attraction

Quote:
Rarely will you visit Lake Chiemsee without discovering a bierfest is taking place. This consists of a large tent, lots of long tables and chairs, a stage complete with German oomp-pah-pah band and locals dressed in lederhosen dancing to traditional music. Lots of German beer is served in large biersteins. Usually, these are jolly occasions giving you a chance to socialize and observe German culture. Not to be missed.

Herrenchiemsee Palace (New Palace)

Attraction | "Herrenchiemsee"

Quote:
After a lovely ferry-boat ride to the island, you can either walk up the hill or take a horse & carraige ride for a small fee. Herrenchiemsee is a different world. As you step in the enormous doorway, you step into history. King Ludwig II fashioned his creation after the Palace of Versailles and did a good job. The ballroom is completely golden with hundreds of chandeliers. His bedroom is adorned in gold and royal blue and features many of his belongings but my favorite room was the Room of the Candelabre, hundreds of them all alight with candles. A visit here is a must if you visit Chiemsee.

Frauenchiemsee

Attraction

Quote:
Frauenchiemsee is the sister to Herrenchiemsee, although a lot different. Women from all over the world visit this island. It is believed to have a spiritual power for women who step foot on it. The old Benedictine Abbey is not always open to the public but when it is, it is worth a visit.

Lake Chiemsee

Story/Tip

Lake Chiemsee Photo - Chiemsee, Germany
Quote:
Lake Chiemsee is located near Munich in Germany's beautiful Bavaria.

Its deep blue waters are a source of watersports such as water-skiing and jet-skiing. Ferry tours leave regularly to it's three famous islands, Herrenchiemsee being the focal point. The surrounding area is filled with unspoiled nature and breath-taking mountain views. Nature and hiking trails are available for the outdoorsy type. There are lots of rental cabins on its shores.

The people here are very friendly and the German food is delicious. I recommend the Jagerschnitzel. If you are touring Bavaria heading for Garmisch and Berchtesgarten stop by Lake Cheimsee. It is well worth the visit.
