I have visited Rome about 17 times since I was a child. Each time my parents would take me to see something new. However, I feel that I most appreciated Rome when I took a taxi ride through the city with a cab driver willing to explain all the sights. We did not get tired, as he knew what he was talking about and we had air-conditioning, which helped in August!

Quick Tips:

Ask the front desk at your hotel if they can arrange for a car to take you around and tell you about the sights. Do this your first day and then you can go back to all the sights you most liked.

This was a very clean hotel with nice people who speak English. I have been to Rome about 17 times and always stay here. It's in a quiet area, but it's not far from all the sights and shopping!
