Take a guided tour of London and a tour of Westminster Abbey. Try to catch the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace--you must find out when it occurs (usually every other day at 11am). When visiting the Tower of London, sign up for a tour with one of the Beefeaters--they are fantastic!

I recommend taking a tour with Golden Tours. The packages offered are excellent, as are the tour guides.

Best Way To Get Around:

I suggest taking the Underground to get to the historic district. The Underground is user-friendly and has an all-day pass that is worthwhile. It is easy to walk around the historic areas.

The Albert Tavern

This is a great lunch spot for tourists. It is conveniently located right near Westminster Abbey and Parliament. The menu consists of traditional English Pub food. I highly recommend the shepherd's pie. The interior and exterior have a great traditional pub feel.

This is a wonderful guided tour. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and entertained us with her witty humor. Tour #1 is a complete full-day tour of historic and modern London, covering Westminster Abbey, Whitehall, Buckingham Palace, Thames River Cruise, Tower of London, London Eye, and more. The price is extremely reasonable, as it includes lunch at a pub, admission fees to the various sights, and the ability to bypass lines. If you only have one day for sightseeing in London, this is the tour to book!

A guided tour by the Beefeaters is a must at the Tower of London. The Beefeaters are witty storytellers whose booming voices relate tales of this house of horrors. Following the tour, cue up on the People Mover (moving sidewalk) to see the Crown Jewels. The magnificent jewels deserve at least one repeat trip on the People Mover. Afterwards, stroll around the grounds for amazing photo opportunities, particularly of the Tower Bridge.
