Description: Hotel Mela is locatedon 44th between 6th Ave and Broadway, so the location can't be beat. You are steps away (literally), from Times Square. Even with all of the hustle/bustle of Times Square - the hotel's rooms are pretty quiet. You occasionally hear other guests, but rarely any city noise.
The lobby is stylish and cool. Hip. Its tiny, but hip. There are plenty of front desk staff and bellmen to help you. The conceirge is right there too. Complimentary lemonade in summer, hot cocoa in winter.
If you think the lobby is small, the elevators are smaller. And somewhat slow. Then, you get to your room. Careful what room you book, as some of them are tiny (think bed, mini bar, flat screen TV on the wall and thats it), others are decent (they have a desk and a chair). So, now you understand my title. Nobody goes to NYC to stay in their room, so if you are there on vacation - the tiny rooms may not be a big deal for you. If you are there on business - careful. Trying to work (no not surk the internet, but work) on a laptop that is literally on-your-lap, as you sit on the bed is thumbs-down in my book. And the internet is spotty at best.
So, if you are going on vacation - give it a try. Its a bargain and in the right location. If you are going on business, its not my favorite.
