Description: Market Square, also known Grote Market, has been a public marketplace/city center since 958. The square is occupied by restaurants, cafes and touristy shops. The statues at the centre of the square are Jan Breydel and Pieter de Coninck, leading figures against the French occupation in 1302, and many of the city's best known tourist attractions are nearby. Every Wednesday, from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. Bruges Markt has a farmer's market offering handmade items and local produce. Take a horse-drawn carriage ride, rent a bike or meander aimlessly through this intimate, beautiful city centre.
