Description: It's a church. Pictures don't do it justice. It's much more beautiful in person. I especially love the ceiling, with its glued-on gold stars. The glue used must be pretty strong because so far, none has fallen down yet. Or so said the guide whose little spiel was the target of my casually eavesdropping ears. I also learned that the stained glass windows detail Montreal's religious history. And that it was built in the 1820s by architect James O'Donnell, a Protestant who converted to Catholicism in the process of designing/building Notre Dame. Everything's made of wood inside but it's all painted and gilded. Blue is the dominant color - it's a gorgeous shade of blue - as it is the color of the Virgin Mary.
And on a trivial note, did you know Mario Lemieux and Celine Dion got married here? Yup. Here. But not to each other, of course.
