Historically, before the arrival of the Spanish, Yucatan was the place of a great Mayan civilization. The Mayan independent spirit seen as a Mayan Resistance to the Spanish as well as a Mexican rule perpetuated into the early 20th century.
While walking on this land keep in mind that scandalous episodes involving the wholesale purchase of Mayans for what amounted to slave labor in the chicle plantations tarnished the history of the territory in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Now you enjoy one of the most beautiful places. Carribean white sandy beaches, green water seas with a great past history can turn anyone to explore this land.
Here are my pictures from the different regions. Xel Ha is already very well known. My presentation is concentrated to the beauty of tropical flowers seen there.
Also please read story/comments under the last picture from Xel Ha, shown in this photo album: http://community.webshots.com/album/25444129qIQHzCEHte
