As soon as we landed I let my family ...Read more I had the great chance to visit New York City recently and I have to say that this was a must do on my list of things to do. It was Easter weekend 2012 and I flew in out of Denver the Thursday before Easter. As soon as we landed I let my family know I had landed safely and that I was in New York City. I got in the Taxi line and waited for the nice man that was dancing and singing as we waited for a Taxi at first he did not realize we were there so it was a great way to arrive to a city you have never been to before. I needed to get to my hotel and check in and then it was off to explore the city. Check in was amazing but that is another review so we went to the first subway entrance we could find to buy our week long metro cards. As I tried to pay I was told by the machine that when paying with cash it will only give you back 6 dollars in change and I did not want to loose 5 dollars so I had to wait for my chance to visit Central park till the Next day.

We got up early the day we went to Central Park. It was still brisk and we were wearing shorts so we turned back around went up stairs and put pants on not realizing how chilly it really was still in New York we soon learned we did not pack enough pants for our trip lol. Any way we got on the right subway and headed out to explore the city. We arrived first at Times Square and walked through Times Square to Central Park. It was an amazing way to arrive. As we stood at the edge of Central Park I looked behind me and realized how amazing of a place it truly was. As all the buildings just pretty much stopped on all sides. It was just crazy to see the skyscrapers on all sides of the park.

As I crossed the street and entered the park I was really amazed at the overwhelming smell of horse that seemed to just hang in the air. It reminded me of the farm and was kind of comforting for a small town girl. As I walked through the park and just people watched I was blown away at all the people that were using the park. People were walking their dogs, running, kids were playing, some one was flying a kite, biking, rik shaws, and so many other things as well. As I walked further into the park I came across a lake as I looked at it on my map I laughed as its name was super simple just The Lake. As I sat on its edge I noticed little turtles swimming in the water close to the edge that would climb up onto limbs that were floating on the waters surface further in on the lake were people in boats. It was all rather romantic and it made me miss my husband even more as he was not able to go with me I took my cousin Kyle. So needless to say no romantic moments for either of us on The Lake.

We Continued to walk through the park and as we walked through the park we came across the Strawberry Fields signs directing us to the memorial for John Lennon. As we walked on to the sight I was over come with a feeling of sadness all around me. I wanted to sit down and cry as we sang a song. The fact that it was just a few days before Easter there were quite a few people that were sitting around on the ground out side of the actual memorial. It was almost as if they were not willing to disrespect the memory of the great John Lennon. As I walked around the memorial I seen that people were actually crying and it brought a tear to my eye. I want to reach out and hug these people and start singing "Imagine All the people" But as I looked around and listened I could hear a very faint sound of a song being played as I looked around I noticed the only person playing any music and it was so low as to add to the atmosphere but not to take away from it.

As I continued around the memorial I was amazed at all the offering that were there. It really made me realize what a true great John Lennon was. For all of these people to be in love with him and to respect him enough to not damage the memorial that is for him in a place that so many use and do abuse. It still just brings utter amazement to mind to think that after all this time people still flock to see this sad site in America's history. After seeing that I have to say that I was quite saddened and really only wanted to go back to my room and get some rest. I was emotionally drained.

All in all however I had a great day in Central Park Visiting Strawberry Fields Forever.
