Description: The former tallest building in the world (that title now belongs to the
Burj Khalifa), Taipei 101 is a sign of the new modernity of Taipei. With 101 floors above ground, the building houses residential area as well as shopping malls and commercial offices, restaurants, and clubs. A landmark in Taipei’s skyline, the modern building was completed in 2004. The building often lights up during the night, and blasts off a spectacular fireworks show every New Year’s Eve. Visitors can get a view of the island of Taiwan from the indoor observation deck on the 89th floor, and the more daring ones can traverse to the 91st floor for an outdoor panorama.
