We don't seem to be able to pass by a beach without stopping and taking a walk. The Biloxi Beach, a man-made beach, is not as much fun as natural beaches, but is still quite pretty. We like to watch the boats, birds, and waves as we walk. The weather in Biloxi was great and it was a sunny day, so we loved our walk. Close

Pearl River Resort is a great place to go for a few days, especially if you enjoy gambling. There are two very large (Las Vegas-like) casinos, each with its own hotel. They are connected by a walkway over the highway. These casinos are very modern and have a large variety of slot machines and table games. Everyone was so friendly and personable. It was a great winter getaway for us. Close

At the Welcome Center, we found coupons for Grand Casino. If you aren't a member of the Player's Club, pick it up. Get one for each adult in your group. Take the coupon to the Grand Casino and when you sign up for the Club (no obligation, cost or anything, just a few minutes), you'll get a voucher for a 2-for-1 buffet. I believe it's worth about $15, depending on the time of day you decide to go. Their buffet is quite nice and offers many selections including Italian, Chinese, Seafood, Vegetarian, and of course American. The night we were there they were handing out a ticket for a lobster for each person, too. The restaurant overlooks the water, too. Nice and peaceful.Close

The most likely reason that most visitors to Oxford end up in town is the University. The beautiful tree lined campus and the world famous Grove (known for its huge game day tail gates on football weekends) will make you feel at home immediately and the Southern hospitality will certainly make you feel welcome. There is almost always something going on on campus, so pick up a copy of The Daily Mississippian (the student newspaper) and check into what's going on while you're here. A prominent member of the Southeastern Conference, there is almost always some sporting event taking place, so dependent on the season, you're likely to find some of the nation's top football, basketball, or baseball talent in town.
A reasonably small southern university at about 12,000 students, it's not too overcrowded and the class sizes are reasoanbly small for anyone looking for a college to attend. The University boasts some top ranking programs, including law and pharmacy on the Oxford campus but overall you won't be disappointed in the academic programs offered here. The University, better known as Ole Miss, has had the reputation of a party school in the past and although this reputation is still in place, don't let this aspect of the school scare you away. Come visit, get hooked by the Southern hospitality and the beauty of the campus and you may never leave!

I had two treatments in an indulgent moment. The pedicure was the BEST I have had anywhere. The chair massages you as you sink back into it and plunge your toes in a toasty tub of swirling water with jets. You feet are lathered with exfoliator scrub, wrapped in masks, covered with plastic bags and hot steamy towels, massaged, including your calves and legs, and pampered royally. Be sure and get the Trailor Trash Red color!
The second treatment was a stress reliever facial. Your face is cleansed, massaged, moisturised, steamed, and your upper shoulders and neck massaged. I felt like a small child again with mommy wiping my face so tenderly. It was so delicious to escape from being a grown up temporarily.
There is a wonderful steam shower to feel like you are in some enchanted rain forest, as the music lends itself to a peace filled serene oasis. Then too, you wouldn't want to miss the sauna, where you can smell the cedar and feel like you are in an tea garden somewhere deep in the Orient. The jacuzzis, there are 3 of them, are a treat as well!

Located just off the I-110 ramp on Caillavet Street, Desporte and Sons Seafood Inc. is a convenient place to stop and pick up some good seafood before leaving Biloxi. In business for over 100 years, Desported and Sons specializes in Gulf seafood. They carry fresh and frozen shrimp in all sizes, live and boiled crabs, fresh crabmeat, oysters, red snapper, speckled trout, flounder, lobster, and stuffed crab, just to name a few of the items they carry. In addition, they will pack all seafood items for travel for free. On our last trip we flew and Artie packed up two boxes of seafood for us to carry home with us. They even sell the ice chests if you forget yours. They also will ship seafood. Desporte and Sons opens daily at 7 a.m. Call 435-2175 and ask for Artie.Close

East of Waveland is the town of Bay St.Louis, known for its old town historic district. The heritage comes thru in the music and antiques that are found in abundance. Bay St. Louis has always based its economy on tourism, but these days its resorts just add to the charm. Bay St. Louis was once dubbed the Rivera of America, but I think it's more like the Jersey shore of the south.Close

When we decided to stay in Jackson for the night, we were traveling with the family dog. For $10.50/night we boarded our furry child at the North State Animal and Bird Hospital located at 5208 North State Street, just a few miles from the B&B where the humans spent the evening.
If you need an animal boarding option, too, make sure you bring a copy of your pet's up-to-date shots record!
Call the kennel ahead of time for reservations during holiday weekends (601-982-8261). The staff was friendly, helpful and polite, and I liked the fact that a vet was available if needed.

The beaches in Biloxi are beautiful! We were there for a gorgeous sunset. My suggestion though... Be careful not to accidentally bring home the sea life. This was my first time at a beach and wanted to find some souvenir shells to bring back to Texas. Well, I found a few. The next morning I discovered one of them was inhabited. It was a hermit crab. He was hiding so far in there I didn't see him. Sadly, he only lived a few days. Close
