Description: I really don't know where to start. I don't speak Spanish, I hadn't been to San Jose before, and I didn't make my travel arrangements.
I walk into this hotel (luxury hotel by my standards) and proceed to the counter. There is no line and no hassles. The gentleman immediately conforms to my bad Spanish and speaks to me in English. With efficiency, he assigns me a room on the 3rd floor, and off I go.
I see my room is at the end of the hall and start meandering that way enjoying the decorations and art. When I get to the end I notice my room has a name. Not just numbers but a real honest to goodness name. I would tell you what it was but again my Spanish is so bad it didn’t register with me. For conversation sake, and because it is my Spanish word of the day, let's call it the
Pavo Suite.
I walk in and realize they have confused me with another visiting American and given me his luxury suite! The entire hotel is covered in rich woods that are highly polished to show their beautiful wood grain, this room is no exception. Also included in this room is: 1.5 bathrooms, desk with computer, monitor, printer, 2 televisions, living room, patio, bedroom, and excellent views facing two directions.
I decide at that time I need to immediately find a surrogate Costa Rican family and invite them over to live with me.
Besides the royal treatment, the grounds are great for early morning strolls, and the breakfast buffet offered local cuisine with American standards as well.
All this and it was priced at about the same rate as a two-star hotel in the United States.
In case you are wondering, I didn’t find a family to adopt me and spent most of my
Pavo Suite time in the bedroom reading and trying to understand simple Spanish phrases.
