Description: Croton-on-Hudson is one of those charming towns where everything’s pretty much in walking distance and the streets are lined with handsome 19th century homes. The Alexander Hamilton House in Croton is an excellent choice for a quick escape from New York. It’s professionally operated, conveniently located only 45 minutes from downtown Manhattan, and reasonably priced.
We had the Victorian Suite (aptly named for its Victorianesque décor), which comes with a queen bed and an alcove w/daybed and tv. There’s also a cozy fireplace stocked with plenty of wood and a spacious bathroom w/ shower. The innkeepers have thoughtfully placed drinks and snacks at your disposal in the hallway—you just drop money in the jar provided. A hearty breakfast is provided for guests including both hot and cold items. Served at communal table at three different seating times.
For warm weather, there’s a swimming pool in the back with a picnic area. You’ll find soothing views of the Hudson from this scenic spot. Nearby attractions include several historic houses such as the imposing Lyndhurst, a Gothic revival mansion overlooking the Hudson; several wineries; a spectacular dam that claims the title of the second largest hand-hewn structure in the world (next to the Pyramids); and lots of hiking and biking opportunities.
