The Tropical da Bahia is a nice, modern hotel located in a commercial area of Salvador da Bahia. There are convenience stores, clothing stores, and other shops along the street. A tranquil city park is situated next to the hotel. With several bus stops and plenty of taxis in the area, I found this hotel's location to be very convenient.
My first impression of our room was the clean smell when we opened the door. This made me happy because it was a pleasant contrast to the ocean and mildew smell of our room at the Leme Othon Palace during the Rio portion of this trip. Housekeeping kept our room spotless; however, like in Rio, the hotel does not supply wash clothes. We had a balcony that faced the park and overlooked the pool. The room had a refrigerator which we used to store the beverages and snacks we bought from the little grocery store across the street. Our tour guide told us that although the water in Salvador is safe to drink, she recommends bottled water because we might not be used to the chemicals used to treat the water.
The hotel has several nice amenities such as a pool, a fitness room, a souvenir shop (expensive), a restaurant, and a lounge that featured a very good pianist each night. With all the scheduled tours and leisure sightseeing we did during our 4-day stay, we were rarely in the hotel long enough to take advantage of any of these facilities.
We ate at the big breakfast buffet the hotel offered each morning. It included eggs, breakfast meats, cold cuts, cheeses, breads, danishes, tropical fruits, tropical juices, and cereals. The food was very good and was included in the price of our trip package.
Finally, I found the hotel staff to be very professional and helpful. They also spoke English fluently. I definitely recommend the Tropical da Bahia Hotel.
