Description: This hotel, located in the downtown core, was built according to Feng Shui, an ancient Chinese art that ensures placement is in harmony with nature to achieve a positive energy flow. Inside the lobby, there are golden Chinese Temple carvings that are covered in 24 kt. gold leaf. Black stone lions at the hotel entrance were brought over from an old Chinese temple. They are supposed to guard against evil spirits and bring good luck if you rub the lions'' heads. Although Feng Shui is ancient, the hotel itself is very modern. The front desk has a bowl of mandarin oranges and marvellous chocolate and coconut confections that you can help yourself to.
The regular rooms have two twin beds but the suites have a king size bed. My friend''s room had 2 twin beds pushed together but they were a bit different in height which made for an interesting sleep. Although small, the beds are covered in comfy down duvets. There are a total of 3 phones in the room (1 in the bathroom) and a mini bar; coffee maker and bath robes are standard. A newspaper is left outside your room each morning.
The bathrooms are wonderful - very large and done in marble. There is a separate glassed-in shower as well as a tub. Bubble bath makes a nice addition to the usual toiletries. The large mirror over the sink is well lit and there is a stool so putting on your make up is a breeze.
The large, partly underground Pacific Centre shopping complex is directly across the street and the Art Gallery and trendy Robson Street shopping is only a few blocks away. The "Diva at the Met" restaurant has been getting rave reviews for its innovative west coast cuisine but we didn''t get a chance to check it out.
