This wine bar just opened in June of 2013, and I the only reason I learned of this place is because the owner is a friend and cohort of one of my best friends. She's an attorney who just happend to "go for it" and make her dream of owning a wine bar a reality. This prime Lakewood location became available and "voila"! it was born!
A lot of wine bars in the Dallas area are kind of pretentious- and if they're not pretentious, they're just a "nicer" affair to get dressed up for and go out with friends etc. This place is so local and laid back- it is the opposite of that. That is EXACTLY why I like this place. My girlfriend and I like it so much we'll now just say "You want to meet at the wine bar this Friday?" and it's assumed we are talking about this place. :-)
They have a patio that is very dog friendly, and we've been known to take the pups for a Friday night of relaxing over a glass. I plan to do this more when the Texas heat cools down!
The selection is great. The staff know their stuff when it comes to wine. I'm not a Chardaonnay person, but they educated me on what is called a "steel" chardonnay, which means it was made in steel barrels, not oak, so it doesn't taste like a traditional Chard. They have this at Urban Vines- and it's now one of my favorites!
They have a veggie panini that's LOVELY (and I'm not a vegetarian), but twice now I've gotten their "Braised Chicken and Drunken Goat Cheese Panini" and it's delicious. Comes with your choice of pasta salad, fruit cup or pita chips. We've also had their homemade hummus & new flatbread. They don't have much in the way of dessert, but they do sell you artisan chocolates!
If you're visiting a Dallas local and wanting a great place to catch up with friends, this is definitely your place!
