Michael, Bill, and Katie had met and become fast friends many years ago when they were all live aboard sailors down south. The present was two Coffee Crisp candy bars. Michael loves these and they are not sold in the US. We found the place one afternoon after golf, and delivered his present. He invited us to have a glass of wine and we chatted for a while.
We returned the following Saturday evening to have dinner. The food was as good as he said it would be. Unfortunately I do not have a copy of the menu, but two of us had the lamb chops that are to die for. Cooked exactly as requested with a very interesting medley of accompaniments.
The cuisine is described as "Tapas & Mediterranean".
The food was so good that when we are back in Myrtle Beach in November we will make a point of returning even though we will be staying in the south end in Surfside Beach. Michael's makes me think of an ad that a store on the outskirts of Toronto runs on the radio - "IT’S WORTH THE DRIVE TO ACTON". In this case, it’s worth the drive to Michaels.
Only open since November 2002, Michael’s philosophy and intention is that he is catering to the year residents of Myrtle Beach. As such you will not see coupons in the myriad of tourist books that abound. But tourists will also find him and tell friends. Word of mouth will work just as well, if not better.
Try it, you’ll like it.
