I've done plenty of free tours all over the world and this was undoubtedly the best. The guide was charismatic and really tried to include everyone in the tour by referencing their countries.
The tour was a loop of Sydney city in 3 hours, finishing at the Opera House and the guide said the route was about 5km.
We had a break in Hyde Park about halfway for 20 minutes and we got a coffee and sat with the other travellers and the guide and asked him lots of questions which he was more than happy to answer. He (forgot his name) did say at the start of the tour that he worked on tips and that apart from the entertainment that we'd 'save lots of money by taking the tour and some of it you'll want to give back'!
We saw the 'best of Sydney' according to our guide and he really gave a personal tour, with a local flavour. It was great to have someone who was very proud of their city and obviously enjoyed their job showing us around. We tipped him $20 each which, for 3 hours in Sydney is a very good deal.
