I have been staying at the Henry VIII for about 10 years. It has become my favorite London hotel. I can only afford to stay there when I find a good deal so about half of my visits are spent at other hotels. The management seems to change often, but the staff is always friendly and competent. Rooms and the common areas are always clean, orderly and quiet. The continental breakfast I experienced in February 2010 was superior to any I have ever had in a London hotel. An unusually large selection for continental and all of it very tasty. Much better than previous visits and Henry VIII has always been the pick of the litter for continental breakfast. I am a budget traveler and my requirements are simple. I only need a clean en-suite room, breakfast and a convenient location. I bounce back and forth between Bayswater and Bloomsbury, depending upon where I find the best deal. I prefer Bayswater. Henry VIII is a short walk to two separate tube stations, one on the Central line and the other on the District and Circle lines, so you can always get in and out if a station or a line is closed for some reason. That seems to happen more often with the Central (Red) line than with some of the others. Changing trains when coming to and from Heathrow is a mild inconvenience, which is offset by the shorter journey to the airport. (Bloomsbury is a straight shot from Heathrow to Russell Square, but the distance is a little greater.) The free wi-fi in the rooms is a bonus, but it is so slow that it is useless. By way of compensation, there is free access to a computer in the lobby, which I have not seen in other hotels.
