Description: We found the Nerja Tapas Run to be great fun although the downside of bar hopping for different plates of food was a little confusing for note taking purposes. That I've managed to pull together some notes and memories of our fourth tapas run venue, Bodega Los Bilbainos, is something of a proud moment.
Perhaps I should have interspaced the alcohol with the occasional soft drink or coffee. However when you can have a great tasting glass of wine for one euro fifty and where they throw in a tapas dish free, how can you resist?
The Bodega los Bilbainos which translated into English apparently means "hold the locals" is a rare beast in Nerja a real traditional Spanish drinking den. Fortunately the wine is cheap and good and the locals are actually welcoming.
We perched at a table in this busy bar with the TV blaring out but enjoyed it so much we actually stayed for two drinks here. This is one of those bars where the mainly male clientele stand in front of the bar. That made me happy as we had spent much of our time perched on stools at the bar side, so a proper table and chairs offered a welcome change.
For tapas I had been tipped off to have one of their little fried eggs on toast. The eggs here are cute little quails eggs and they make for an excellent tapas sized snack. The eggs were cooked to order for us and were very tasty. Our dining companion had some chicken and got a good portion of chopped cooked chicken for his tapas. Although the owner offered us a second round of tapas we were getting a little full and so declined his offer.
Unfortunately the bodega los bilbainos has no outside space (it sits on a very narrow road), so in summer I can picture it being a little too hot and stuffy to enjoy, but in winter it has a very homely feel. I liked the check tablecloth and yellow walls, and once again this was a bar that although well lived in, looked very clean.
To sum up, the Bodega los Bilbainos was the cheapest of our tapas run bars with two rounds of drinks coming in at a meagre 11 Euros. Although it wasn't the poshest of our venues it was perfectly acceptable, with good wine and friendly folk around us.
