With metropolitan cities like Ottawa and Toronto, and spectacular features like
Niagara Falls, you’ll find plenty of ways to fill up your days in Ontario, wherever you decide to go.
Once the premiere honeymoon destination in North America, Niagara Falls remains a jaw-dropping draw for millions of visitors every year. Visitors can marvel at the falls from platforms in Queen Victoria Park, or venture into underground walkways, where they can get up close and personal with the thundering waters. A more peaceful way to round out the afternoon can be found a few minutes north of the falls at the
Butterfly Conservatory, a simulated rainforest housing thousands of exotic butterflies and colorful tropical flora.
The capital of Canada, Ottawa specializes in historical and cultural attractions. The collections at the
National Gallery of Canada are considered some of the finest in the continent, while the suite of Gothic buildings housing the nation’s government at
Parliament Hill, are renown for their architectural beauty. Those looking for a day trip out of the capital can take a historic trip along (or on) the
Rideau Canal, the world’s longest running canal system, in operation since 1832.
Toronto is Ontario’s treasure trove of activity. Hockey fans flock to the
Hockey Hall of Fame in downtown Toronto, where over 200 legends of the rink are immortalized along with the holy grail of the NHL, the Stanley Cup. Architecture buffs haunt the city’s oddball castle-like mansion
Casa Loma, while almost everybody wants to ascend the iconic
CN Tower. This modern world wonder stands 1,814 ft. off the ground, and was the tallest building in the world until 2007 (it’s now second).
Those looking for a kid-friendly jaunt outside the city limits should visit Jungle Cat World, a small conservationist zoo specializing in (unsurprisingly) jungle cats. And those looking for outdoor recreation Canada-style should head two hours north of Toronto to the Horshoe Valley, where adventurous types can try wintery activities like
cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and downhill skiing at one of the area’s numerous resorts.
